On an early-autumn night the screens of the city’s shopping districts renewed themselves together, and lit up one after another. Nine landmarks — Xinyu Tower in Xiashan, Chikan Convention Centre, Wanda in the development zone, Jinsha Bay, Huaduhui, Rongji Plaza, Yinxianghui — carried the same picture, “Guangdong goods go out into the world; the hot-farm fair brings people to buy.” Xuwen pineapple, Lianjiang red orange, Suixi volcanic sweet potato, Zhanjiang prawn: a scroll of tropical produce, brushed across the night sky, warming the city before the agricultural occasion opened.

The pictures were local, and recognisable. People stopped, watched, and took them home on their phones. At Yinxianghui, a resident named Chen picked out several Zhanjiang goods at a glance, and said, with the pleasure of someone already planning the trip: on the 22nd there is a tropical-produce event at the Olympic centre. He would go and look. He had heard you could taste it on the spot.

In front of the screen at Chikan Convention Centre, students stopped and talked, and took out their phones to look the event up. When they heard the floor would bring out pineapple brandy, pineapple black tea, and other things made further down the fruit, the surprise was real: they had known the pineapple was famous. They had not known a tropical farm product could be opened into so many new things.

The first Zhanjiang tropical-produce fair of 2026, the hot-farm fair for short, was to open from 22 to 24 September at the Olympic Sports Centre. Nanfang Media Group hosted it. Southern Rural News carried it. The work was to make the name Zhanpin, and to send good farm goods out of their circle and out of Guangdong. More than a hundred organisations had already said they would come. Chambers of Guangdong merchants from RCEP countries, and buying groups from Hong Kong and Macao, were coming as parties. The lineup had a shine to it.

The fair was a place where a resident or a visitor could unlock Zhanjiang’s own goods in one stop. The benchmark produce of every county and district was gathered there: tropical fruit, the particular fresh things, and what had been made further. A tasting quarter invited Cantonese cooks to work in front of people, and the choosing of Zhanpin ran at the same time. You could taste, and buy as you liked, and stand close to what this tropical agriculture actually is.

The occasion was not only a kindness to shoppers. It also had to lift the industry, and to take a brand out of its old circle. On the floor there would be an account of how RCEP farm rules helped Zhanjiang Blue, the practice of an ocean ranch going to sea. An RCEP quarter would stand there, a table where the domestic and the foreign could meet in both directions, pushing Zhanpin from the local circle, out across the country, and onto the water toward overseas. A Zhanpin session would publish the second list of 2026 and give the plaques. Local firms would take the stage. Buyers would taste, close up, the particular flavor the name is meant to hold.

Zhanjiang is the only city in the country that holds, at once, the tropical, the subtropical, and a peninsula opening on a bay. The output of farming, forestry, herding, and fishing has stood above a hundred billion yuan for five years running. Pineapple is two-thirds of the national crop. Aquatic products have led the province for thirty years. The screens lighting up across the city were not only a mood. They were the hard strength of this agriculture, gathered and shown.

The whole city is already warm, and the occasion is about to arrive. From 22 to 24 September, keep the Olympic Sports Centre in view. Go to a feast of tropical produce, unlock the real Zhanpin goods, and watch a new liveliness in Zhanjiang’s agriculture.
