The difference is basic. Transgenic work moves a gene from one organism into another. A bacterial insect-resistance gene put into corn, so the corn resists insects, is a plant carrying a gene from outside. It sounds extreme. The change is large, and it crosses the species line.

And made a new high. In 2002 China's shrimp output reached 380,000 tonnes, back to first in the world, and it has stayed there. In 2003 it doubled again, to 780,000 tonnes, and a structure took shape with Pacific white shrimp as the main variety, alongside black tiger shrimp and Chinese shrimp.

In fact many countries are already farming it. For now the farming is still fattening after capture. That means a tuna caught at sea, or a half-grown one, is put in a cage at sea to fatten.

最近听说一个事儿以前认识的一位在佛山做生鱼料的大经销商破产这个经销商高峰期的时候呢一年卖大几千吨的生鱼料加上动饱啊 肿苗啊 连营业额过去亿的当年开好车 住好宅。

I heard lately that a large dealer of snakehead feed I used to know in Foshan has gone bankrupt. At the peak he sold several thousand tonnes of snakehead feed a year. Add animal health and seed, and turnover passed a hundred million. In those years, a good car and a good house.

is too familiar to our firms. It is the road we walked twenty years ago. There is a phrase for it: a time lag in development. So what we take over is not a simple bag of feed. It is a ready-made, working Chinese solution. We use our today to wake their tomorrow.

反观泰国呢市场成熟竞争激烈成本已无优势作为首战的话门卡太高印尼市场很大但导国物流成本高法规复杂适合作为大纹脚跟之后的第二战场缅甸啊柬埔寨啊成本最低。

Thailand, by contrast, is mature. Competition is fierce, and the cost advantage is gone. As a first battle the bar is too high. Indonesia's market is large, but as an island country the logistics cost is high and the rules are complex. It fits as a second battlefield, after the foothold is firm. Myanmar and Cambodia have the lowest cost.

但基础设施啊工业配套和政治风险都很高也不适合作为规模化标准化出海的首战越南恰恰就卡在了最理想的位置市场的爆发力模式可复制再加上政局相对稳定风险相对可控。

But the infrastructure, the industrial support, and the political risk are all high. Not a first battle for going overseas at scale and to a standard. Vietnam sits in the most suitable place. The market can break out. The model can be copied. The politics are relatively stable, and the risk is relatively controllable.

这对于第一次真正意义上跨出国门的企业来说它就是那个最适合的首发站。那第二个问题就边锐了。越南制造的崛起会不会反过来威胁我们我个人的观点可能会反直觉。这不是替代而是迭代。

For a firm crossing the border in a real sense for the first time, it is the right first stop. The second question is sharper. Will the rise of made-in-Vietnam turn around and threaten us? My own view may run against the intuition. This is not replacement. It is a step up.

In many Vietnamese feed plants, the core additives, the key equipment, even the technical standards, come from China. The growth of its exports sits on a strong Chinese supply chain. In other words this is not a factory moving house. It is a capability flowering. In the chain.

Could the industrialization of biological breeding walk a gradual trial, from ornamental fish to food fish? I see three reasons. First, ornamental fish can be a buffer for technical risk. They do not enter the human food chain, so the safety assessment sits on ecological risk.

What buyers want from an ornamental fish is that it is new, and good-looking. Gene editing can meet that, and even create a new want.
